There is nothing more magical about a home than the perfect porch. A hefty corner porch or a low front porch is what makes me smile. We did not have a quaint little porch when I was a child; we had a massive beastly deck that looked out onto a pond. Since I didn’t grow up with a charming porch where did my fascination come from?
Hmm, maybe my porch obsession comes from the vacations we would take as a child. We often spent this time with our extended family, which for an only child was awesome. The many homes we rented throughout New England ranged from ski chalets and cottages in the mountains to tiny bungalows on the beach and even a massive estate on the Vinyard. When the family finally bought a three bedroom fixer upper on the Cape Cod we added a screen porch that became the outdoor living room with an adjoining deck that spilled out onto the lawn.
This week was spent visiting my Mom on the Cape and everywhere I turned was a charming little slice of porch perfection. When I started going through my snapshots on my Cloud I found so many great moments of porch perfection—many older photos from Jamaica Plain so I pulled out a handful of my favorites to enjoy.
This Jamaica Plain menagerie of reclaimed linens and found furnishings is so well edited it’s as if the owners could live on their porch the entire summer. A table just big enough for a meal, a sofa just the right shape for curling up on and tables accessorized to perfection with a vintage tray and a wire lighthouse candle holder. I think this space was my absolute favorite with the rustic mitred floor boards uninterrupted by railings and the stunning wooden screen door.
